19th Annual Piedmont Young Writers' Conference
Saturday April 12, 2008
Over 600 children throughout the Piedmont participate in the Young Writers' Conference each spring. Children are selected from schools by their teachers to attend the conference as a result of independently writing and illustrating their own book utilizing the Scholastic Kids Are Authors book program. The conference brings together children, kindergarten through eighth grade, for a series of workshops related to reading, writing, and the artistic skills utilized in creating books. Attendees at the conference come from a combination of public and private schools comprising the Piedmont School District region. This is an outstanding honor for children to be selected to participate in this conference.
The Piedmont Young Writers' Conference will undergo a program change beginning with the April 12, 2008 event. The conference will be open this year to 3-5 graders and 6-8 graders only and will follow the Scholastic “Kids Are Authors” rules and guidelines. Kindergarten through 2nd graders will no longer be able to participate in the conference. The conference schedule will be divided into a morning and afternoon session, each with a maximum capacity of 500 students. A copy of the books prepared by your student teams (composed of 3 or more students) will be required at the conference and will be incorporated as a presentation by the team in a workshop session.
