Piedmont Young Writers' Conference

20th Annual Piedmont Young Writers' Conference
Saturday April 25, 2009
Over 600 children throughout the Piedmont participate in the Young Writers' Conference each spring. Children are selected from schools by their teachers to attend the conference as a result of independently writing and illustrating their own book utilizing the Scholastic Kids Are Authors book program. The conference brings together children, kindergarten through eighth grade, for a series of workshops related to reading, writing, and the artistic skills utilized in creating books. Attendees at the conference come from a combination of public and private schools comprising the Piedmont School District region. This is an outstanding honor for children to be selected to participate in this conference.
The Piedmont Young Writers' Conference underwent a program change beginning with the April 12, 2008 event. The conference is now open to 3-5 graders and 6-8 graders only and will follow the Scholastic “Kids Are Authors” rules and guidelines. Kindergarten through 2nd graders will no longer be able to participate in the conference. The conference schedule will be divided into a morning and afternoon session, each with a maximum capacity of 500 students. A copy of the books prepared by your student teams (composed of 3 or more students) will be required at the conference and will be incorporated as a presentation by the team in a workshop session.
In order to participate, all district and private schools must request an information meeting with a CESD representative. All meetings must be conducted on or before the required date of December 19, 2008.
*Please note, all districts and private schools that participated in 2008, must also request an information meeting.
