21st Annual Piedmont Young Writers' Conference

Saturday May 1, 2010

Students in grades 3-8 throughout the Piedmont participate in the Young Writers’ Conference each spring. Students attend the conference as a result of independently writing and illustrating their own book, either individually or as a participant in a small group. Attendees at the conference come from a combination of public, private, and home schools comprising the Piedmont School District region.

The student-created books are reviewed and scored utilizing a rubric by certified classroom teachers. The top 25 books in each category (Fiction, Non-fiction, and Going Green!) receive an invitation for the book author(s) and their parent(s) and/or guardian(s) to attend a reception that includes an author presentation and an awards program.

In order to participate, all district, private, and home schools must request an informational meeting with Deborah Carson, Director of the Center for Educational Studies and Development by October 31, 2009.
