School of Education
Dean's Message

Welcome to the UNCG School of Education!

Wixson_photoThe School of Education is a vibrant and inclusive learning community that embodies access, equity, diversity, cultural relevance, and collaboration in teaching, research, service, and community engagement. Our programs offer real-world knowledge to prepare students to be successful professionals.

We partner with local school districts to provide professional development and research support to improve learning opportunities for children and students from Birth through Higher Education. Undergraduate students seeking teacher licensure spend over 1,000 hours in local schools with on-site teacher educators. These field experiences are just one way we prepare our students to be collaborative, aware, and responsive professionals.

Nationally recognized by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching, we are constantly engaged in research with faculty and students working side-by-side actively seeking new knowledge. These findings are then integrated into our programs and teaching.

Our distinguished faculty make up six departments within the School of Education--

  • Counseling and Educational Development (located in the Ferguson Building)
  • Educational Leadership and Cultural Foundations
  • Educational Research Methodology
  • Library and Information Studies
  • Specialized Education Services
  • Teacher Education and Higher Education
