The University Teaching and Learning Center (TLC) strives to promote
a creative and stimulating learning environment enabling UNCG to achieve
its vision of becoming the leading student-centered university in the region.
The Center provides a source of instructional and presentation materials
to faculty and students. Guidelines on the use of materials follow.

Mission: The University Teaching and Learning Center (TLC) strives to promote a creative and stimulating learning environment enabling UNCG to achieve its vision of becoming the leading student-centered university in the region. The primary focus of the TLC is the support of faculty in their efforts to enhance the University's instructional programs. The TLC provides instructional development activities, instructional materials, equipment, test, and data scanning services, and consultation in instructional development and in the use of instructional technology.
Creative Services:
Instructional and Presentation Materials
The TLC produces a wide variety of instructional and presentation media including graphic, photographic, audio and video materials. The Center's skilled professional staff offer faculty photographic, graphic design, and digital imaging services. The TLC is equipped to assist in a variety of desktop publishing activities, including the computer generation of graphics for submission to professional journals. Equipment is available to produce high quality color prints and 35 mm slides from computer graphics.
Video Production
The TLC maintains a television studio for the production of professional
quality video tapes and programming. The Center can also provide
faculty members with equipment and training for
in-class videotaping.
Instructional Development
Instructional and Curricular Development
The Instructional Development Office assists faculty members in enhancing
teaching skills, improving courses, and resolving instructional problems.
The staff plans and coordinates workshops related to classroom instruction,
evaluation, management, and student learning. The Center maintains
a calendar of faculty and instructional development events. The TLC
coordinates programming related to course and instructional enhancement.

The Faculty Multimedia Laboratory
The Faculty Multimedia Laboratory provides the opportunity for faculty to develop instructional materials and web-based resources, experiment with new software and hardware products, and learn through individualized instruction. Trained students are available to assist faculty in the production of media, the development of web-pages and the use of software applications. Mini-workshops are regularly offered in the lab and individual consultations are also available.
Consulting
The TLC also provides assistance in instructional planning, planning of facilities with respect to instructional uses of technology, training in the use of equipment, consultation in selection of equipment and materials, and instructional development activities.
Classroom Teaching Support
Instructional Equipment
Various types of instructional equipment, including video projectors, LCD panels, audio recorders, and video playback units are available from the TLC. The Center also provides daily delivery of materials and equipment. The TLC maintains and installs electronic instructional and research equipment throughout the campus. In addition, TLC staff are available to modify or build specialized equipment.
Teleconferences
Teleconferences can be received by the TLC's satellite receivers and distributed via the campus telecommunications system. Teleconference activities must be scheduled well in advance to insure availability of down-link facilities.
Instructional Space
The TLC provides space, equipment, and personnel for a variety of instructional activities. The TLC classroom, equipped with a video projector, is available for use by large groups for video viewing and teleconferences. The Center also provides a viewing room equipped with video recording and presentation equipment and study carrels equipped with video viewing equipment. Facilities other than study carrels must be scheduled in advance.
Media Services
Print and Media Collections
The TLC maintains the K-12 Materials Collection for use by faculty and students in professional education programs. A collection of instructional video tapes and films are maintained for circulation to faculty. Students may preview these materials in the TLC or arrange to use the materials in UNCG classes. A collection of entertainment videotapes are available for circulation to students, faculty, and staff.
Resale Items
Audiotapes, videotapes, transparency materials, projection lamps, cables,
optical scanning forms
and electronic parts are stocked for resale to the academic departments,
faculty and students.
Tape Duplication
The masters for all foreign language tapes used on campus are available in the Center. Students may make high speed copies of these masters using tapes purchased from the TLC. Video duplication from NTSC as well as PAL/SECAM format is available to the faculty. Copyright restrictions and fees may apply.
Test and Data Scanning
The TLC also provides test scoring and data collection services for research and faculty evaluation as well as consultation in the production of specialized forms. These services must be scheduled in advance.
Services for Students
The Children's Literature Collection and the entertainment videos are
available for circulation to students with a valid UNCG ID. Instructional
videos and equipment for class presentations may be borrowed by students
by presenting a memo on departmental letterhead from the instructor.
Students may also copy foreign language audio tapes by using blank tapes
purchased from the TLC.
