Svi ShapiroSvi Shapiro (ELC) is a recipient of a Fulbright Specialist Grant and will be a scholar in residence for two weeks at Jose de Caldas University in Bogota Columbia. While there he will teach, consult with faculty and administrators, and give a public lecture as well work with doctoral students in the area of social and philosophical foundations of education around educational policies in that country.

Joseph Hill Joseph Hill (SES) is featured on the university website Inspire. Change. The article "His hands speak many languages" focuses on his role as coordinator of the ASL program and research of Black ASL.

Traci Bellas (TEHE PhD student) won the Siler City Residents Award for second place and Best Presentation in the first annual "Two Minutes To Win It" contest sponsored by the North Carolina Entrepreneurial Center at UNCG. See full article here.

Stephanie KurttsNicole DobbinsStephanie Kurtts, Nicole Dobbins (SES) and Natsuko Takemae (SES PhD student), published an article in the Jan/Feb. 2012 issue of Library Media Connection. The article, entitled "Using Assistive Technology to Meet Diverse Learner Needs," includes a reproducible table featuring high tech AT tools, a description and example of how the tools are used, and what type of learning difference is supported by the tool.

UNCG has been recognized by the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards as one of the top 20 institutions that awarded undergraduate degrees to 40 or more teachers who became National Board Certified Teachers (NBCT) in 2011.

Nominations are now being accepted for the 2012 Mentoring/Advising/Supervising (MAS) Award is Two MAS Awards are given, one designated for tenured faculty and the other for untenured faculty. The award is pertinent to both undergraduate and graduate levels of education. The nomination materials are available here.

The School of Education scholarship application is now available online. Please encourage your students to apply. The deadline is March 30.

The Spartan Trader, UNCG's first consignment retail store, will be opening this semester. The store offers students, faculty and staff the opportunity to sell their handmade creations or services to the UNCG and Greensboro community on consignment for a profit. The Spartan Trader is a cross-campus, experiential learning initiative that will be operated by students through UNCG courses. The Spartan Trader is built on the components of experiential learning, sustainability and locally-sourced materials. Spartan Trader Retail Store Consignee Blitz Day will be Tuesday, January 26, between 10:00am - 8:00pm at the Spartan Trader Retail Store, 1540 Spring Garden Street, First Floor of Spring Garden Apartments.
