DiAnne Borders (CED) was the featured guest presenter at the 11th Congress meeting of the Turkish Psychological Counseling and Guidance Association in early October 2011, held in Selcuk, Turkey. Full press here in Campus Weekly.

Julie Hersberger (LIS) was awarded the SIG USE Elfreda A. Chatman Research Proposal Award, by the American Society for Information Science and Technology (ASIST). The title of the proposal is “A Resilience and Information Behavior Model: Understanding Information Roles and Use Outcomes in Homeless Populations.”
She was also the keynote speaker for SIG USE 11th Annual Research Symposium, “Where Your World Meets Mine: Information Use Across Domains” where she spoke about her research with the homeless and information behavior.

Mary V. Compton (SES) and UNCG colleagues’ article, “Cochlear Implant Connections: Facilitating the Rehabilitation Journey” published in The ASHA Leader.

Keith Mobley (CED) is featured in the UNCG International Program Center’s enewsletter, eNewsworthy, highlighting his service-learning trip to Costa Rica.

Anthony Chow (LIS) had seven paper presentations at the North Carolina Library Association Conference and North Carolina School Library Media Association Conference from October 5-8, 2011. Papers presented included:
Anthony's co-authored paper, “Computer Science and Information Technology (CSIT) Identity: An Integrative Theory to Explain Gender Gaps in IT” with UNCG's Dr. Lakshimi Iyer and Xia Zhao of Information Systems and Dr. Stephen Tate of Computer Science has been accepted into the conference proceedings of the International Conference on Information Systems in Shanghai, China, the premiere global conference in the IS field. Anthony has also been selected as the chair for the Social and Behavioral Sciences Subcommittee for Research Faculty Grants at UNCG.

Heidi Carlone (TEHE) will be giving a lecture titled “Good science teaching matters: But what is “good”? And to whom does it matter?” presented by the Child and Family Research Network on Tuesday, November 1, from 5:30-7 p.m. at the Greensboro Public Library. Flyer can be downloaded here.

School of Education Recognition Celebration will be Tuesday, November 1 from 5-6:30 p.m. in Virginia Dare, Alumni House. This event will recognize our friends and donors, and scholarship recipients.

Randy Penfield, Professor in the Department of Educational and Psychological Studies, and Director of the Research, Measurement and Evaluation Program at the University of Miami, will be the new ERM department chair beginning half time in January.
