Faculty, Staff, Alumni and Student Accomplishments

Congratulations to Joseph Hill (SES) and others on their recently published book The Hidden Treasure of Black ASL: Its History and Structure. He and his co-authors on the book were given the Andrew Foster Humanitarian Award in recognition of their work on Black ASL at the 25th National Black Deaf Advocate (NBDA) conference!
Barb Levin and TEHE faculty will continue to receive funding from the U.S. Department of Education for TESOL for ALL - Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages = Academic Language Learning
Carol Mullen (ELC) was elected President of the National Council of Professors of Educational Administration (NCPEA) for 2012-2013 and is currently President-Elect.

Announcements

We are currently collecting new/gently used school supplies for the Guilford Education Alliance Teacher Supply Warehouse. The collection bin is in 141, SOEB (central mailroom).
North Carolina DPI announces Common Core and Essential Standard Institutes for Institutions of Higher Education (IHE) and Community College (CC) Faculty. SOE faculty are encouraged to attend. See flyer here for more information.

Chancellor Brady’s State of the Campus Address will be Wednesday, August 17th at 10 a.m. in Aycock Auditorium. Faculty and Staff Excellence Awards Ceremony will be at 10:30 a.m. in Aycock Auditorium. An opening luncheon for all faculty and staff will start at 11:15a.m. in the Dining Hall. All SOE faculty and staff are encouraged to attend.
Dean Wixson will be hosting a welcome back social at her home on August 26th for SOE faculty and staff. Please check your email for the Evite for more details.
SOE faculty retreat will be on Tuesday, August 30th in Virginia Dare, Alumni House.
