Faculty, Staff, Alumni and Student Accomplishments
- Governor Perdue has appointed Joseph Hill (SES) to serve on the Council for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing.
- Cheryl Greenberg and Erik Hines (CED) represented the School of Education at the Institute for Recruitment of Teachers (IRT) recruitment fair in Andover, MA. They spoke with over 30 students who are currently planning graduate school applications. IRT seeks to support minority students who plan to enter graduate programs.
- Keith M. Davis,’99 PhD (CED) was elected to serve a three-year term on the Board of Directors for the National Board of Certified Counselors.
- Svi Shapiro (ELC) was invited by Tel Hai College in northern Israel to lecture to faculty and students. He spent 3 days at the college and spoke to more than 60 people about the moral, social and spiritual dimensions of education.

- The UNCG New Student and Spartan Family Programs are still in need of 4-8 more faculty discussion leaders for our Freshman Summer Reading Project. They currently have 32 faculty from across campus. Faculty who volunteer for this event are asked to:
- 1. Contact participating students through Blackboard 3 times before the event to make introductions, ask questions about the text, or just welcome students to UNCG.
- 2. Attend a faculty meeting on Tuesday, August 16 at 11:15am to the event to brainstorm discussion ideas.
- 3. Attend the program on Saturday, August 20, from 12pm-2pm and lead a discussion with a small (20-30) group of students.
- 4. Enjoy a small token of our appreciation, a free lunch, and the opportunity to engage incoming first year students!

- The UNCG Garden is available for class meetings for the fall 2011 semester. If you are interested in using the garden for your classes please contact Susan Andreatta at s_andrea@uncg.edu or 256-1164.
- As we settle into our new building we are experiencing the normal adjustments. Facilities is working to accommodate all faculty and staff requests. However, we ask your patience as we move through the checklist. Currently we are working with the Office of Safety to ensure classrooms are in compliance for the start of the school year. We will get to your requests as soon as possible. Your continued patience is appreciated.
