Undergraduate Admissions:
Each fall, UNCG receives applications from approximately 5,500 freshmen and 1,200 traditional transfer applicants. We expect to enroll approximately 1,500 new freshmen and 600 new transfer students for each fall semester. The admissions decision is based upon an evaluation of the high school record and/or college record together with the results of standardized tests.

Review Process
Applications are reviewed and admissions decisions are made on a rolling basis. For priority consideration for fall admission, freshmen should apply by March 1st and transfer students by August 1st. *The final deadline for fall admission is August 1st. Freshmen should apply by November 1st for spring admission and transfers by December 1st. **The final deadline for spring admission is December 1st.
Applicants must supply the following:
- Official high school transcript.
- Official results of the SAT I or ACT (freshmen only) - the College Board code number for UNCG is 5913
- Official transcripts of all college course work.
- List of courses in progress.
- Application and fee.
High School Preparation
UNCG requires the following minimum high school course work:
- English (4 years)
- Foreign Language (2 years)
- Mathematics (3 years)
- Science (3 years)
- Social Science (2 years)
Transfer Students:
Transfer students must present 30 academic semester hours or more of college credit from a regionally accredited institution. They must meet the UNC requirements for high school preparation, be in good academic standing at the current or last institution, and have a minimum overall and transferable grade point average of 2.00 as calculated by UNCG. Students not meeting the UNC high school preparation requirement must complete specific course in order to transfer to UNCG. Please contact the Office of Admissions for guidelines regarding course selection.
A student who has college credit totaling fewer than 30 transferable semester hours must meet requirements for both freshmen and transfer applications. This also applied to students attending collegiate institutions that are not regionally accredited.
Note: Admission to the University does not guarantee selection into any specific major or area of study. Transfer students should contact the School or Department of interest to learn of any additional entrance requirements specific to that major.

An application should be filed with The UNCG Graduate School with official transcripts of all previous college and university work, three letters of recommendation, an autobiographical statement including a summary of your educational background and professional goals as they relate to graduate studies in education, your resume, and GRE scores taken within the past five years.
The Graduate School tracks and communicates with prospective students as to their application status, receipt of transcripts, recommendations, and test scores. All applicants will receive notification regarding acceptance from the Graduate School through the mail.

All credentials must be received by July 1st for consideration for fall semester and by November 1st for the spring semester. Students are advised, however, that individual programs within departments may have established alternate deadline dates, may not have established specific deadline dates, or, may permit rolling admissions. Students should check individual program admission policies.
History of the School of Education
The University of North Carolina at Greensboro was established in 1891 as the North Carolina Woman's College but has been a coeducational institution for over 30 years. One of 16 universities in the North Carolina University System, UNCG has a long legacy of accomplishments.
The School of Education is known throughout North Carolina, the Southeast, and the nation for the quality of its students, programs, faculty, and partnerships with the public and private sectors. Beginning in the fall of 1988 and through May 1995, the School of Education was under the able leadership of Dr. A. Edward Uprichard, who now serves the University as the Provost. Dr. Dale H. Schunk is the current Dean of the School. The School has consistently ranked among the top 50 schools of Education in the nation as determined by the survey conducted each year and published by the U.S. News and World Report.
Professional Schools and Accreditation
One of six professional schools at the University, The School of Education's programs are approved by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction, the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE), the Council of Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP), and the American Library Association (ALA).
