Welcome Back
Welcome back for the spring semester. We hope that each of you enjoyed your winter break and are excited about the new semester beginning. We have a lot of events planned this semester from different social events, Young Writers Conference, semi-formal, and much much more. So, pay attention to your calendar, and have a great semester.
“Acknowledging that the quality of education in our public schools is determined by the quality of our educators, an ambitious teacher recruitment program, the North Carolina Teaching Fellows Program, was enacted by the General Assembly in 1986. The mission of the program was, and continues to be, to recruit talented high school graduates into the teaching profession and to help them develop leadership qualities such as visionary thinking and risk-taking; qualities that have not, in the past, been valued in teachers. The Teaching Fellows Program challenges students to see beyond the classroom and to think about the connections of education to the quality of life and the economic survival of our state. The program has quickly become one of the most prestigious awards in North Carolina.”

Last semester Teaching Fellows was very active with helping out in the Greensboro community. We volunteered with the Greensboro Opera Company's BBQ fundraiser, provided a Halloween Festival for students in the Glenwood tutoring program, and had a very successful Holiday Social where we provided presents to the residents of Mary's House. This semester is going to be just as eventful and we're even going to branch out to try to connect with other local organizations....so watch for emails!!
Freshman, Sophomores, and Juniors, mark your calendars for Saturday, April 12. UNCG will be hosting the Piedmont Young Writers Conference. We will need your help from 7am-5pm to guide all the students around campus. Remember, this event would not be possible without all of your help!
We would like to thank everyone in helping make the Holiday Social a success. Thank you for your generosity, attendance, and kindness. We could not have done it without each of your support.

UNCG on campus events in February
My name is Cayce Wood and elementary education is my major. I come from Stoneville, a little town about 45 minutes north of Greensboro. I really enjoy hanging out with family and friends, watching movies, shopping and traveling. I really love Disney, especially Disney Princesses and I collect all things Disney as well. I also enjoy a good game of Disney Scene It with my fellow fourth floor Coneys! I also love all types of music except Rap. I chose education because I want to positively influence little ones the way that I was influenced when I was a child. I want to know that I've helped someone achieve their education and that I left a wonderful mark on their lives.
My name is Tyler Anderson. I am an English Education Major from Bunn, North Carolina. I love reading, writing, watching Grey's Anatomy, texting, cooking, and taking random pictures as if I was on America's Next Top Model. I chose education because I had amazing teachers growing up and I want to help others have an awesome time learning and hope to inspire some "love" of literature!
Hi, I am Kelly McCraw, a freshman Teaching Fellow at UNCG. I am planning to become a Middle Education major, but as of now I am not to certain of the two concentrations that I have to have completed. I am leaning towards math and maybe science. I am from Mount Airy, North Carolina. If you are a Andy Griffith' fan, yes I am from the small town of Mayberry. Basically, since I have been in college I hang out with my Teaching Fellows and college friends from Cone 4th floor - represent! But, overall for fun I hang out with friends, go watch movies, go bowling, and etc. The main reason why I chose education is basically the teaching fellows motto, "Teaching is the profession, that starts other professions". Also, everyone I know thought I would be a great teacher and I love kids; I guess it just clicked!
My name is Sam Jones. I'm an English major. I am from Sanford,
NC. I enjoy fishing, camping, and playing basketball. I chose education because I wanted to get involved in a career where I feel that I am making a difference in the lives of others.
