Professional Development Workshops, Conferences, Symposia & Projects

The UNCG School of Education plans and conducts professional development workshops, conferences, symposia and projects. These opportunities are provided by the School of Education, the Teachers Academy, the Center for Educational Studies and Development, and departments across campus as well as through University-School Teacher Education Partnerships and the UNCG Division of Continual Learning.

21st Century Skills Conference for High School Teachers
UNCG and School Districts in Partnership to Strengthen Teaching & Learning

  • Themes: Global Awareness, Civic Literacy, Health Literacy, and Financial, Economic, Business, and Entrepreneurial Literacy
  • Location: Sheraton Imperial Hotel & Conference Center

  • Date: Friday, November 20, 2009
  • Time: 7:45 am—4:30 pm
  • Who: Classroom Teachers, Lead Teachers, and Curriculum Specialists in Alamance, Chatham, Durham and Orange Counties
    A three to six person interdisciplinary team, including a school administrator, from each high school is encouraged to attend. Each team needs to bring one laptop with wireless capability.

Beyond the Walls: National Board Certification Renewal for Reynolds American Counties:
Davidson, Davie, Lexington, Mt. Airy, Stokes, Surry, Thomasville, Winston-Salem/Forsyth & Yadkin school systems<

Location: Winston-Salem/Forsyth Teacher Career Center

Two-Day Workshop: January 9, 2010 and April 17, 2010

Join NBCT, Joan Celestino, and learn about the renewal process so you can renew your certification and maintain your designation as a National Board Certified Teacher! Joan is recognized across our state and nation as an outstanding workshop facilitator and one who brings her personal experience, energy, and professionalism to every session.

Day 1, January 9th, 9:00am-1:30pm - On the first day participants will focus on the renewal format, revised standards, the renewal product, critical decisions that renewal candidates need to make, and choosing the Professional Growth Experiences (PGE).

Day 2, April 17th, 9:00am-noon - On the second day participants will focus on reading components, reviewing a video, and discussing questions.

Remember that National Board Certification takes you "beyond the walls" so you can continue to improve as a teacher as well as share your teaching excellence as mentors, instructional leaders, staff-training experts and other leaders within your school and beyond. Take advantage of this opportunity to become informed about the renewal process and to network with other teachers from across the state.
