The Student Advising Center (SAC) in the UNCG School of Education is dedicated to serving all UNCG students pursuing degrees in education. As part of this mission, the SAC hopes to increase the level of connection between students interested in secondary education (9-12) (as well as K-12 specialty areas) and the School of Education prior to entering and while participating in Teacher Education. The Secondary Advisor in the SAC seeks to offer a wide range of academic advising, mentoring, and counseling services for students, including short-term, individual advising and counseling, group work, and consultation from an integrative approach. The Secondary Advisor in the SAC designs individualized services to encourage and support personal development and exploration, with a belief in a collaborative process between student and advisor/counselor. The Secondary Advisor is committed to meeting the needs of diverse people.
The Secondary Education Advisor offers services in conjunction with major/department advisors from the schools/departments housing majors leading to teacher licensure in secondary education (or K-12 education). The majors included in the secondary education licensure areas are anthropology, biology, chemistry, classical studies (Latin), economics, English, French (K-12), geography, history, mathematics, physics, political science, psychology, sociology, Spanish (K-12). The K-12 specialty areas include art, drama (theatre education), exercise and sport science (physical education), music, school social work, and specialized education services (including professions in deafness and special education).

NOTE: Students seeking secondary teacher licensure must meet with both the major advisor AND the Secondary Education Advisor prior to registration for classes each semester.
