Christina Mckoy Major: Elementary Education with a concentration in Social Studies

Why did you choose Elementary Education with a concentration in Social Studies"

I chose this major so that I could be able to work with the future. My goal is to teach in an inner city school and provide them with the education that every child deserves. I want to be the person that my students can come to if they ever need help and be apart of their support systems so that they can be prosperous adults. I chose to teach elementary school because I enjoy interacting with children and believe that this is the best time to stroke their desire to learn.

What are your career plans?

Until I am 31 I plan to be an elementary school teacher. Ideally around 32 I would like to be a high school principal, by 40 I would like to be a superintendent, and by 50 I would like to be a college president. By the time I am 60 I would like to have established my own 24 hour Boys & Girls Club, where children can eat, stay if needed, do there homework, hopefully explore the world, and engage in other fun activities. I chose these many levels of education so that I can impact all ages. My journey starts with working with the younger children, then moving to the older children, to adults, and then back to my roots with younger children and teenagers.

Why did you choose UNCG?

I chose UNCG because they have a great education program. While attending high school I knew that I would want to live in North Carolina after I graduated so I researched UNCG and noticed that they had a phenomenal program and that it wasn’t too far from my family in this state. I also like that it is a well accredited school and a medium size campus which makes the learning more intimate and effective.
