Hometown: Salisbury, NC
Major: Elementary Education with a concentration in Social Studies
Why did you choose Elementary Education?
I like to say that I did not choose my major, it chose me. Since my baby brother was born, I have always had a heart for teaching. Long afternoons would be filled with me teaching my teddy bears and dolls how to read and write. All my years of school I kept having this hunger for learning, there was never too much of it. So many opportunities appeared in my first job, and student teaching in high school to further prove my love for teaching. There was also no question about the age either. Children are my heart; and I tried to fill any job I had with them. When I came to UNCG I still lacked doubt about my decision. Everything came so natural and peaceful when it came to teaching. I have to say, I am a very lucky person to have found what I love to do at such a young age. There really was no big struggle to find out my perfect career, it was just always there.
What are your career plans?
I plan to go back home and work in Rowan, Davie or Iredell County. I hope to have a job at a school where I can incorporate outdoor science. I have given thought to pursuing administration in the future. If I do so, I would love to come back to UNCG and enter the principal fellows program here.
Why did you choose UNCG?
My high school principal recommended UNCG to me for education. When I researched it I was surprised to find out that it was one of the best schools on the east coast for education, especially elementary. When I came to tour the campus I fell in love with it. Through the years, the School of Education Staff have been some of the best mentors through my education experience, it really is different from other schools!
