The major purpose of the UNCG Staff Senate shall be to provide for awareness of and involvement in the University community by SPA and EPA non-faculty employees; to encourage professional and personal development of the staff; to improve communication within and between all staff and faculty within the University; and to participate in University governance through representatives appointed by the Chancellor as recommended by the Staff Senate Executive Committee to serve on appropriate committees of the University.
The Senate includes staff elected from the six university divisions: Academic Affairs, Business Affairs, Student Affairs, Information Technology, University Advancement, and the Chancellor's Staff.
The Senate also includes many elected and appointed committees that address issues such the budget, staff welfare, service, and staff enrichment.
The Senate meets monthly during the academic year. The Senate officers meet regularly with the Chancellor and Senate Committee chairs.
UNCG Staff Senate
Committees
Bylaws Committee
Chair: Stacy Kosciak
The Bylaws Committee shall ensure that motions from the Staff Senate are within the guidelines of the bylaws, and that the proposed changes to the bylaws are in agreement with current bylaws. The committee may propose changes to a bylaw for the Senate to consider. Any bylaw proposed by a member of the general Senate or the Staff Senate Executive Team must first be reviewed by the Bylaws Committee prior to its presentation to the full Senate no less than 15 days before the full Senate meets. The Bylaws Committee may choose to accompany its input on any proposed bylaw to the Executive Team, but cannot prevent a proposed bylaw from consideration by the Executive Team.
Communications Committee
Chair: Brian Wilson
The Communications Committee shall be responsible for regularly disseminating information from the Senate to the University staff. This committee shall include a representative from each standing committee.
Campus Community Well-Being
Chair: Jeffrey Coleman
The purpose of the Campus Community Well-Being Committee shall be to advocate for staff in the areas of welfare, benefits, wellness, inclusion, diversity, and sustainability by research, involvement in various campus committees, and the presentation of findings to the Staff Senate.
Budget & Compensation Committee
Chair: Karen Ward
The purpose of the Budget & Compensation Committee shall be to review the budgetary needs of the University, and make recommendations to the appropriate administrators, and to the Staff Senate regarding the needs of staff. The committee shall educate its members and the General Staff on how the budget is allocated at UNCG and through the UNC system, and provide forums as needed for issues related to this process. The committee shall make periodic and timely reports to the Senate regarding the salary situation at UNCG, such as comparison of salaries among the Schools and the College, and gender differences in salaries.
Elections
Chair: Scott Milman
The Elections Committee shall ensure the willingness of each nominee to serve if elected and shall oversee the annual voting process.
Professional & Personal Development
Chair: Connie Uselman
The Professional & Personal Development Committee shall be responsible for coordinating educational opportunities for staff development. This committee shall also oversee the Employee Enrichment Fund, and make recommendations for expenditures from these specific funds.
Employee Recognition
Chair: Gay McDonald
The Employee Recognition shall be responsible for the administration of the Staff Stars program and the University Staff Excellence Awards.
Former Chairs
Chair: Scott Milman
The Former Chairs Committee shall include all past Chairs of the Staff Senate who are on the University staff or who are retired from the University. The committee shall meet at least once per year to discuss constitutional maintenance issues and provide advice to the Executive Committee.
Service
Chair: Mark Coker
The Service Committee shall identify community service activities or initiatives on campus and off campus that are relevant to UNCG staff and shall coordinate staff participation in these activities.
