Staff Senate Committees


Professional and Personal Development Committee

Chair: Jennifer Lester, The Graduate School
Member allotment: 8

In an effort to address a primary component of the Staff Senate mission, the Professional & Personal Development (PPD) Committee is responsible for coordinating professional development and personal enrichment opportunities provided to Senators and their constituents through the “Brown Bag Seminar Program” and through various Senate meeting presentations. The PPD committee is also responsible for the promotion and administration of the Staff Senate Scholarship Fund and the Employee Enrichment Fund.


Budget Education Committee

Chair: Bruce Griffin/Chris Gregory
Member allotment: 7

The primary purpose and charge of the Budget Education Committee for the 2011-2012 Senate year is to provide the UNCG Staff community with information regarding the status of the UNCG budget, common campus resources that may help alleviate certain budgetary constraints, and other general budgeting and/or "life planning" information. Additionally, the Chair of this committee serves on the Chancellor's Budget Sounding Board.

On-Campus Service Committee

Chairs: Lee Odom
Member allotment: 8

The Service Committee shall identify community service activities or initiatives on campus that are relevant to UNCG staff and shall coordinate staff participation in these activities. A strong emphasis is placed on Senate presence in and devotion to the UNCG community. Senators and their constituencies are encouraged to submit their service interests, needs, and ideas to the committee chairs throughout the year.

Off-Campus Service Committee

Chairs: Jan Albrecht
Member allotment: 8

The Service Committee shall identify community service activities or initiatives off campus that are relevant to UNCG staff and shall coordinate staff participation in these activities. A strong emphasis is placed on Senate presence in and devotion to the UNCG and Piedmont Triad communities. Senators and their constituencies are encouraged to submit their service interests, needs, and ideas to the committee chairs throughout the year.


Staff Recognition Committee

Chair: Betty Betts
Member allotment: 8

The Staff Recognition Committee shall be responsible for the administration of the Staff Stars program and the University Staff Excellence Awards. Additional recognition programs, such as the design and publication of a Staff Senate newsletter may also be developed. Ideas and suggestions, along with assistance in delivering Staff Star Awards are welcome throughout the year from constituents.

Morale Initiative Committee

Chair: Braian Wilson/Bob Snyder
Member allotment: 8

Through tough economic times of uncertainty and potential loss, Staff Senate would like to continue their efforts in providing opportunity either through education or events to help increase staff morale throughout our UNCG community. The Morale Initiative Committee will research and implement budget neutral ways to accomplish this goal.
