Staff Perks

UNCG employees have a variety of benefits and opportunities, or "perks," available to them as members of a large academic community. In addition to retirement, health insurance and leave benefits, UNCG employees can take advantage of the following:

Cultural Events

• Office of Multicultural Affairs calendar of events—Heritage Celebrations, MLK Celebrations, Human Rights, and Empty Bowls.
• University Concert/Lecture Series, theatre productions, dance and musical performances, and exhibits at the Weatherspoon Art Museum (free admission).

• Sustainability Film Series offered every month, held at the Weatherspoon Art Museum, Q & A session after the movie.

Discounts & Services

• Human Resource Services—Stop by the HRS reception area in Mossman, they have discounts or coupons available.
• State Employees Association of North Carolina—Membership includes a variety of discount offers.
• UNCG Alumni—A variety of discounts and opportunities are available to Association members.
• WeSave—The Office of State Personnel offers discounted products and services to all active and retired state employees.
• UNCG Bookstore—20% off merchandise and 10% off books. Valid ID must be shown. Barnes & Noble at Friendly Center also offers faculty and staff discounts.
• UNCG Telephone Services—Phone discounts available for Alltel, AT&T/Cingular, Nextel/Sprint, and Verizon. Contact Kim Newnam in Telephone Services.

Education & Learning

• Division of Continual Learning—DCL offers several programs and courses (both credit and non-credit) to UNCG students, faculty, staff and the general public.
• Educational Assistance—Contact the Benefits Office for more information
• Explorations—An opportunity for staff to take undergraduate-level courses for personal enrichment or professional knowledge. The $20 application fee is waived for staff—be sure to let them know that your are a staff member when you submit the application.
• Library—Use your FirstCard to borrow books from the Jackson Library's general stacks. Books loans are for 3 weeks.
• Tuition Waiver
• Visions—An opportunity for staff and faculty to take courses for a variety of reasons. The $20 application fee is waived for faculty and staff.
• Staff Development Office: Located in HRS.

• Teaching & Learning Center—With their UNCG ID card, staff may borrow VHS tapes or DVDs free for 1 week. Learn more and browse the video catalog online.
• Discounts available from the Greensboro Coliseum for a variety of shows and events. When purchasing tickets online via Ticketmaster, use the password: UNCG4905.

Financial

• Annuities & Supplemental Retirement Accounts
• Credit Union—The State Employees Credit Union offer a variety of banking services including coupons or discount cards at the branches.
• NC Flex Program
• Savings Bonds Information
• Emergency Loan—An alternative for UNCG employees to borrow money for short term emergency situations

Health

• Health Services— Offers a variety of services that are also available to faculty and staff. These include, but are not limited to, pharmacy services, over-the-counter medications, flu shots, vaccines, and massage therapy.
• Recreation/Exercise—The Student Recreation Center offers a membership option for staff (and their spouses). In addition, the SRC is open to families on Friday evenings from 5pm through closing and all day on Saturdays and Sundays.
• Golf course—Available for students, faculty and staff with a UNCG ID card. The course is open 8am to 6pm. If you do not own clubs, the Recreation Center has a few available for check out. Stop by the Main Desk in the Recreation Center.
  Piney Lake—Seasonal membership available for individuals ($40) or families ($70)

Staff Events

• Fallin' For Fun FEST—Annual event includes Staff Appreciation Awards ceremony, benefits fair, food and fun.
