South SpencerThe home of Cornelia Strong College is South Spencer Hall, named for Cornelia Spencer (not to be confused with Cornelia Strong), who was a poet, social historian, and journalist. Through her writing she exerted significant influence in reopening the University of North Carolina after a five year shutdown during the post-Civil War Reconstruction Era (1865-1877). Built in 1907 and renovated in 1986, South Spencer Hall blends modern convenience with neo-classical charm. |

Shared rooms in South Spencer are approximately 165-175 sq. ft. and are furnished with a extra long twin bed, dresser, desk, hutch, and closet for each resident. Beds may be bunked (though not lofted). Rooms also have sinks, window blinds and tiled floors. South Spencer is one of the most convenient residence halls; it is located just between the library and the Atrium dining facilites, just steps from class. Our common spaces are warm and welcoming. The JCR (or Junior Common Room) serves as the living room of Cornelia Strong College, a place for College Council meetings, parties, events, cuddling up with a good book, poetry readings, impromptu concerts.... We are also proud to have a great basement Game Room complete with Air Hockey and Ping Pong tables, and eagerly awaiting the installation of a new Pool Table. The Committee Room is a place for smaller meetings, Movie Nights, or occasional classes. The Study Lounge on the second floor has a great big table to help you manage those larger projects or meet with a study group to prepare for exams. We also have a Laundry and Kitchen on each floor. The Offices on the first floor are here to help you manage life at Cornelia Strong, UNCG and beyond. |
