Welcome all Obama fans!
The UNCG College Democrats are happy to announce the formation of the Spartans for Change sub-committee of our organization. The Spartans for Change are students from all backgrounds and political orientations who have been inspired and energized by Barack Obama's message of hope. If you are interested in joining the committee, please email UNCG's field organizer, Zoe Gainey, at zgainey@ncforchange.com
Our organizing meeting will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 3rd at 8:00 pm in the Azalea Room in the Elliott University Center. We hope to see you there, and go Obama!
Want to help Spartans for Change in an important way?
We have several critical positions available within the Spartans for Change:
Dorm Director: Someone who can recruit dorm captains for each of the dorms and organize dorm storms during UNCG.
Off-campus housing director: Someone to create a list of off campus housing and know where the highest concentration of students are to target those areas.
Club and group outreach director: Responsible for reaching out to other student organizations to get them involved in the campaign - especially any student orgs that are registering voters 9such as the Neo Black Society, NPHC etc) so we can coordinate our efforts.
Professor and Faculty Outreach Director:We have a ton of wonderful professors who want us in their classes registering voters and spreading the word about the campaign. This person will coordinate those efforts within the classrooms.
Registration and OSEV Director:This person is in charge ok keeping track of and coordinating our various registration efforts. They know how many people were registered each day, and can collect the forms and get them turned in at the end of each day. After the deadline, they will focus their efforts on OSEV and coordinate rallied and events where students can all go early and vote together. A great way to encourage this would be to coordinate with local businesses to get discounts for students with an "I Voted" sticker!
Communications Director: This person will help get editorials in the school newspaper, and get voter education spots on the radio. They are also in charge of all "new media" such as facebook groups and myspace groups.
Data Director: "If it's not written down, it doesn't exist!" There will be tons of registration forms and OSEV Pledge cards coming in form the UNCG students and we need someone who can make sure all of them get entered into the voter database- this should be someone who is good with computers, organized, and a quick learner!
All of these roles are very important and we need to make sure each gets filled!
