Mission and Goals

The mission of the Graduate Student Association is to enhance the experience of each graduate student at UNCG; promoting personal and professional growth through educational, developmental, and social activities. The GSA will also serve as the collective voice and power of the graduate student body in interactions with the University administration and faculty. In support of this mission the GSA will be guided by the following goals.

Education

To enhance the potential academic and professional goals of graduate student and, through additional opportunities for learning and development, contribute to the overall academic experience of all graduate students, the GSA shall
  • Provide opportunities for leadership in the area of graduate student concerns;
  • Offer learning opportunities involving topical lectures and discussions;
  • Engage the collaboration of UNCG faculty members from diverse areas of study in order to broaden the understanding of relationships among disciplines; and,
  • Support professional/educational growth by supplying funding to students.

Service

To serve the identified educational and developmental needs of all graduate student, the GSA shall
  • Encourage maximum participation of graduate students in the leadership and active membership of the GSA in order that the services it offers may be stable and strong;
  • Provide educational and professional networks and relationships for graduate students through affiliation with other associations;
  • Serve as a forum for communication among fraduate students; and between faculty, staff, and students; and,
  • Provide a means of referendum for any member to address and/or influence University policies regarding graduate student concerns.

Advocacy

To promote and support the general academic welfare of all graduate students, the GSA shall
  • Communicate GSA's goals and advocate student’s needs to the faculty and administration in order that each graduate student may have the most positive educational experience possible;
  • Provide graduate student representation to the Faculty Senate, Graduate Studies Committees, and other University committees; and,
  • Serve as liaison with the Student Government Association
