Kelly
Lockhart is a familiar face to conventions, having been
involved with them for nearly twenty years. Among his many fan
activities, he founded and still maintains the popular Southern
Fandom Resource Guide convention calendar website, has
served on the board of s! everal conventions over the years
running everything from Art Shows to Masquerades to Computer
Gaming rooms, was the co-founder of the Charlotte 2004
WorldCon bid, is part of a multiple award-winning
Chattanooga-based costuming group, and for the past fifteen
years has overseen the popular Robot BattlesTM
competitions across the country. He is also a professional MC
and has hosted more conventions events than even he can
remember.
But
there is more to Kelly than just fandom. In the "Real
World" he’s a feature writer for the The Chattanooga
Pulse, his hometown weekly alternative newspaper, has been
writing commercial advertising copy for over twenty years
(yeah, he's one of THOSE writers), is one of most popular
radio personalities in Chattanooga, and is the lead singer for
the popular 70’s style rock band Moccasin Bend, which was
named after a local mental hospital. Those that know Kelly
well find this strangely appropriate. He'! s even President of
his Neighborhood Association, which should also tell you
something about his neighbors.
He
would like to add that he is enslaved by three cats, has a
tendency to dress rather strangely during conventions (the
Green Fairy was a one-time deal, thankfully), doesn't sleep a
lot, enjoys telling bad jokes and long stories, oversees the
oldest-running blog in Chattanooga and one of the city's most
active online message forums, has fun attempting to play golf
when he has the time, and is always looking to meet new
people.
