After just
3 ½ years Raven
Mimura graduated from the internationally regarded Rhode
Island School of Design with his Bachelor of Fine Arts in
Illustration. After
graduating, he spent a year teaching art and building his
portfolio before launching his freelance career, where he
focuses primarily in the fantasy gaming field.
Raven
continues to work heavily with Wizards of the Coast (including
occasional in-house concept work), with the majority of his time
focused on Dungeons &
Dragons and Star Wars.
His images can also be found in the Hecatomb
CCG, D20 Modern, Call of Cthulhu,
Dragon Magazine, and a
number of other WotC products. He
has also been asked to provide ongoing work for the Anachronism
card game from Tri-King Games (in association with the History
Channel). Among countless other projects, he's been involved
with Vampire: The Requiem (White Wolf), Legend of the Five Rings, Warlord, and
Seventh
Sea
(AEG), Camelot Legends
(Z-Man Games), and a wide range of D20 supplements from a
variety of publishers. Raven's
cover credits include Complete Psychic and Oriental
Adventures for D&D, the Warhamster issue of John
Kovalic's
Dork
Tower
comic, as well
as Guardians of Order's re-release of the Tekumel novel The
Man of Gold.
Raven
builds gritty, atmospheric scenes using palpable light to play
off tangible forms. He
is consistently called on for his impressive character and
creature work. In
developing credible but fantastic creatures he pays particular
attention to musculature and anatomic structure.
Raven is
continuing his freelance work as well as intensifying his
involvement in national conventions and art shows.
In a slight departure from these, he has also been
participating in shows with
Seattle
’s Art Walk.
