Hello fellow STANDers,

In Darfur news, a very discouraging article was written (again) about the US government's opinion on taking action in Darfur. Zoellick, the Deputary Secretary of State, traveled to Sudan this week and called the genocide "a tribal war" that the US can't help stop. Read the rest of this infuriating article at:

Moving on to better things...

The movie night went well. We didn't pack the house, but the movie (Sometimes in April) was very good and I highly recommend it to everyone. Next up is the photography exhibit on Monday at the Fountain from 11-2. I just printed the drawings off today, and they are so amazing but so disturbing. Definitely come check us out.

The die-in plans are continuing despite our slight setback with the Free Speech protest going on at the same time. The die-in will be Wednesday, the 16th from 11:50 to noon. We can meet around the free speech zone by the EUC (right on College Ave) and pick out a spot from there. Again, let all your friends know (because you told them all) this info, and that the dress is black or dark clothes. On Tuesday, we will make the signs to pin on our shirts and organize further.

We also have tentative plans for the week of buybacks (textbooks that is) with Adams and the Campus Bookstore to collect school materials. We have a table reserved on Monday December 5th to table in the EUC to hit up that bookstore traffic. Still waiting to hear back from Adams, but more will be discussed at the next meeting.

And now for probably the most exciting news in the history of the world...AMARIS IS GOING TO PERFORM FOR US AGAIN! She tried to share her poetry with us at the Fast, but things didn't go so well with her performance. So her and some of her friends will be performing Friday night, December 2 at Tate Street Coffee House. This will be in conjunction with the letter writing campaign as well, so we will have our information and hopefully those children drawings as well there. This will be our last event of the semester, so I highly recommend that you write it with neon green pen in your planners.

The email letter is coming along. I will send it either tonight or tomorrow to you all to pass around.

One more thing - we still need easels for Monday. If you have any to let us borrow, please email us back so we can pick them up this weekend. Thanks soooo much!

Have a good night guys!

Katie
