The School of Human Environmental Sciences and its Departments of Social Work and Human Development and Family Studies are pleased to offer a summer language and culture immersion in Costa Rica. This program will offer students an opportunity to increase their knowledge of Latino culture and improve their Spanish language skills.
Participants will have four hours a day of language instruction (4 students to 1 instructor) and stay with selected Costa Rican families. The course cost includes trips to the Monteverde cloud forest, the Poas and Arenal volcanoes and a trip to the Caribbean side of Costa Rica. The trip includes daily activities of service and learning, including participation in community building, visits to refugee communities and interaction with indigenous tribe members.

Registration: Register through UNCG Division of Continual Learning for SWK 522, 510, 410 or HDF 527
Deposit: $400 due by December 15 (non-refundable)
Credit: Six hours through two of the following courses
Course substitution made for major requirements should be discussed with your advisor.
Cost: $3100 includes all instruction, transportation, housing, two meals per day, all excursion costs, lectures, visits and airport transfers. Airfare is NOT included and will cost about $700.

UNCG RESERVES THE RIGHT TO CANCEL OR ALTER THE PROGRAM FORMAT OR CHANGE THE COSTS IN CASE OF CONDITIONS BEYOND ITS CONTROL. IF STUDENTS WITHDRAW FROM THE PROGRAM AFTER MARCH 15, $160 THAT WILL COVER THE COST OF ARRANGING HOST FAMILY LODGING AND SEATS IN HIRED BUS EXCURSIONS WILL BE RETAINED IN ADDITION TO THE NON-REFUNDABLE $400 DEPOSIT.
