Consumer, Apparel, and Retail Studies

The Department of Consumer, Apparel, and Retail Studies will position you to create the next hot trend in apparel or to establish retail venues for today’s consumers. Our curriculum prepares students for careers in apparel design and in retailing and marketing with the focus on satisfying consumer demand. In choosing a Retailing and Consumer Studies or Apparel Product Design concentration, you will benefit from an innovative learning environment that prepares you for global careers in apparel product development, apparel design, retailing, and marketing. CARS collage Your professional life will be enhanced by the valuable internship experiences you receive through such companies as the Belk Stores, Betsey Johnson, JC Penney, Polo Ralph Lauren, Renfro (Fruit of the Loom), Saks, Inc. and VF (The North Face, Tommy Hilfiger, Nautica).

Internships are routinely offered in a variety of exciting venues, including New York, London, Atlanta and the West Coast. You will also have opportunities to develop inter-cultural competencies by studying abroad. In addition, we provide unique access to industry leaders through the CARS Advisory Board, composed of 20 leaders representing the apparel and retail industries.

Work settings: apparel design and manufacturing firms / retail stores / consumer organizations or government agencies / retailing and apparel industry associations

Undergraduate Degrees: Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Consumer, Apparel, and Retail Studies
Concentrations: Retailing and Consumer Studies / Apparel Products Design
Graduate/Post Graduate Degrees: Masters of Science (thesis) / Masters of Science (non-thesis) / Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.)
