Dr. Byoungho Jin is the Putman and Hayes Distinguished Professor of the Department of Consumer, Apparel, and Retail Studies, University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Dr. Jin's unique educational background includes apparel design, fashion marketing and management, and international retailing. These diverse specialties are well blended and reinforce her niche research area, international apparel retailing. Her specific research interests center on cross-cultural consumer and retail studies, apparel branding strategies, global supply chain management in apparel industry. Research is her passion, as is evidenced by 65 refereed journal papers and 8 under review; 73 refereed presentations; 1 textbook; 3 book chapters; and 56 trade articles. She challenges herself endlessly to produce high-quality research works that can lead the discipline and contribute to solving imminent industry issues. Evidence of this quality can be seen in her papers published in top-tier (i.e., ISI-level) journals, including International Marketing Review, Advances in Consumer Research, International Journal of Service Industry Management, Services Industries Journal, International Journal of Operation and Production Management, Supply Chain Management: An International Journal, and Journal of Business and Industrial Marketing.
Recently, she has led two federally funded projects, one from the U.S. Department of Education and the other from USDA, as PI (project director). The projects focus on two of the world's emerging markets, China and India. As a part of the projects, Dr. Jin's research team has developed comprehensive instructional modules to increase undergraduate and graduate students' understanding toward the markets.
Her unique contribution to the discipline is well recognized through several awards. Dr. Jin was awarded the Prentice Hall Lecturer Award at the annual conference of 2007 International Textiles and Apparel Association (ITAA). This award is one of the most prestigious given to an ITAA member for his/her outstanding contributions to the field. She has received several Best Paper Awards at various academic conferences and the Best Lecturer Award at Yonsei University in 2001. In Korea, Dr. Jin is selected as 100 Young Women Leaders. She is the recipient of 2007 Regents Distinguished Research Award and 2009 Outstanding Graduate Faculty Mentor at Oklahoma State University. Her profile is listed in Who's Who in the World in 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, Who's Who in America in 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012 and Who's Who in Finance and Business in 2009-2010.
Dr. Jin actively reaches out to the industry. She provides consulting services and workshops to the universities and industries in Korea, China and India. She is presently an advisory board member for the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry and an editorial board member for Clothing and Textiles Research Journal and the Korean Journal of Clothing & Textiles. Prior to coming to UNC, Greensboro, Dr. Jin served at the Department of Design, Housing and Merchandising, Oklahoma State University.
