Carl L. Dyer is the Putnam and Hayes Distinguished Professor in the Department of Consumer, Apparel, and Retail Studies.
Dyer and coauthors have presented refereed and invited papers at numerous regional, national, and international conferences and meetings in the United States as well as in Costa Rica, France, England, Germany, Portugal, Finland, Morocco, Thailand, and Turkey. He has published in the Journal of Fashion Marketing and Management, Journal of Marketing Management, Advances in Consumer Research, Family and Consumer Sciences Journal, Textile Research Journal, Journal of Social Economy, National Textile Consultant Journal, American Dyestuff Reporter as well as numerous book chapters and peer reviewed proceedings papers at conferences such as the American Statistical Association, American Collegiate Retailing Association, International Textile and Apparel Association, International Trade and Finance Association, Association for Global Business, and the World Conference of the Textile Institute. Dyer’s research and scholarly activities have been built around the retail supply chain from fiber to final consumer. Emerging streams of research have been: International trade and trade policy for the consumer, apparel, retail and textile (CART) complex; structure of the textile, apparel and retail industries; consumer demand, markets and expenditures for apparel and related consumer products and services. Recent research interests include extended retail supply chains; luxury brands and fashion; and special consumer populations.
Prior to UNCG, Dyer was a tenured faculty member at North Carolina State University and the University of Tennessee, where he also served as Director of the Textile and Nonwovens Development Center. While at the University of Tennessee, Dyer led the development of the Ph.D., M.S. and B.S. programs in Retail and Consumers Sciences, rated the fourth best retail program in the United States. He was a visiting faculty member at Miami University and North Carolina State A&T University. He was selected as a National Faculty Exchange Fellow, was awarded a National Policy Faculty Fellowship, was elected as Phi Psi Man of the Year, and is member of Omicron Nu, Phi Psi, Sigma Xi, and Sigma Phi Omega.
