Preparation for Application to Teacher Education
For admission to teacher education, prospective candidates are expected to explore their options and make certain they meet minimum requirements before turning in an application.
All candidates should meet with their major advisors. Secondary education candidates should also meet with advisors in School of Education Office of Student Services.
Candidates should read and comply with the rules, regulations and procedures as described in the Teacher Education handbook and website, departmental handbooks and website, and the UNCG Undergraduate Bulletin.
Application Requirements
Before submitting an application for admission to teacher education, candidates must meet the admission requirements of their licensure programs.
Programs require a grade point average (GPA) of 2.5 or better. Candidates should know the GPA requirement of their programs.
Programs require minimum scores on the PRAXIS I, SAT or ACT exams. Candidates should know the testing requirements of their programs. Information about Praxis I can be found at the ETS website. Equivalent SAT and ACT scores are found in the Teacher Education Handbook.
Candidates are required to request a criminal records check through Background Investigation Bureau after the process is finalized by the Office of Student Services. At that time, candidates will complete a request form and pay the fees for this review.
Additional information about this process will be forwarded to candidates when it is available. Candidates should not proceed with this review until they are notified by the Office of Student Services or their program coordinator.
Candidates should download the application to the Teacher Education and submit the completed application to their advisor or program coordinator.

Advisors or program coordinators will review the application and, if approved, will submit it to the Office of Student Services.
Applications should be submitted in the second semester of the sophomore year and no later than the first semester of the junior year. Exceptions are made on an individual basis.
