Programs may require minimum scores on the PRAXIS I, SAT or ACT exams. Candidates should know the testing requirements of their programs.
Information about Praxis I can be found at the ETS website. Equivalent SAT and ACT scores are found in the Teachers Academy Undergraduate Handbook.
Candidates have two options for taking PRAXIS I exams:
Computer-based format, administered by ProMetrics. Candidates can register by calling 1-800-772-9476.
Pencil and paper tests, administered by ETS. Candidates can register at the ETS website.
NOTE: The UNCG Counseling and Testing Center is a Test Center site used by ETS to administer standardized tests. The Testing Center is not responsible for registration or determination of the tests offered. The Testing Center is the only paper-based administration of the PRAXIS exam in Greensboro, NC; however, other test centers offering the exam include Chapel Hill, Durham, Raleigh, Salisbury, and Charlotte in North Carolina.
Before submitting an application for licensure, candidates must meet the requirements of their licensure programs. Among those requirements may be passing scores on Praxis II exams.
North Carolina requires elementary and special education candidates to earn passing scores on the Praxis II teaching exams. Other programs may require passing Praxis II scores, as well. Candidates should know the testing requirements of their programs.
All lateral entry teachers (see "Lateral Entry" on this website) are required to have passing Praxis II scores in their licensure areas before they can be recommended for Standard Professional I licensure.
Information about Praxis II can be found at the ETS website.
