Marsha Paludan

Marsha comes to UNCG's Theatre Department with a rich and varied background in teaching and performance. As a guest artist, she has traveled with her original work and performance art collaborations throughout the U.S. and Canada, Ireland, England, Holland, Denmark and Australia. She holds degrees in Dance and Biology (B.A.) from Occidental College (Los Angeles), Choreography and Performance (M.A.) from the University of Illinois, and a Ph.D. in Theatre and Film from the University of Kansas. Training with Marjorie Barstow, she has been an Alexander Teacher since 1985. She coordinates the movement curriculum for the BFA and MFA actor training programs. Her eclectic approach integrates Alexander Technique, Developmental Technique, Yoga, T'ai Chi, Viewpoints and Contact Improvisation as creative and self-care resources into the acting classes. Her directing projects range from MISS JULIE to THE SOUND OF MUSIC, EQUUS to Emily Mann's GREENSBORO: A REQUIUM, AN EVENING OF KYOGEN PLAYS to Mark Adamo's opera based on LITTLE WOMEN. Marsha has a strong connection to non-western theatre and movement disciplines. She has practiced T'ai Chi since 1970 and has been studying Kyogen (classical Japanese comic theatre) for over ten years. She has toured both the U.S. and Japan with the International Classical Theatre Company in Kyogen productions. In the summer of 1996 and 1998, she studied Noh dance and chant in Kyoto while teaching at KAPPA, Japan's first Alexander Technique teacher training school. Since 1999, she has taught on the Eastern Music Festival summer faculty as the Alexander Technique Teacher. With colleagues from around the U.S., she launched an Alexander Teacher Training School based in Greensboro in Fall 2004.
