Faculty & Staff
The Department of Theatre provides a myriad of educational opportunities to its students through the instruction and guidance of its knowledgeable faculty and staff members. One of the department's strengths is the wide knowledge base our instructors have in many different areas of theatre, offering practical experience in a variety of theories and practices. The performance faculty has members who specialize in such schools of thought as Michael Chekhov, Sanford Meisner, Katherine Fitzmaurice, the Alexander Technique, contact improvisation, and more. Our design faculty has instructors who have extensive knowledge and training in mask-making, stage makeup, puppetry, welding, etc. The tremendous help of the support staff makes the scene and costume shops run smoothly and effectively, as well as providing an information center for the department as a whole. The Department of Theatre has memberships in over 10 national theatre industry organizations such as ACTF, USITT, SETC, TCG, and AATE, all of which provide opportunities for faculty, staff, and students to keep abreast of new trends in theatre and to provide opportunities for professional networking and showcasing of work. Additionally, our faculty and staff are constantly honing their craft through professional work outside the department with such theatre companies as the North Carolina Shakespeare Festival, Triad Stage, and Mill Mountain Playhouse.
