Carolina Colloquy for University Teaching
1989 -2000

1989
The Carolina Colloquy began in July 1989, when Western Carolina University invited all sister campuses in the UNC system to send a team of two outstanding teachers and one administrator to talk about teaching in the UNC system. One person from each campus was designated Campus Coordinator for Colloquy activities. Carolina Colloquy offices located at Western Carolina University, Faculty Center for Teaching Excellence. Benjamin F. Ward, Executive Director.
 

In July, the First Carolina Colloquy on College Teaching conference for all UNC campuses was held at WCU.

August Second Carolina Colloquy on College Teaching conference, WCU

1991
 
July Third Carolina Colloquy on College Teaching conference, UNCC
July   First Colloquy New Faculty Seminar on Exemplary Teaching, WCU
Fall  Representatives from UNC universities met to form Colloquy Steering Committee and create role/mission statement. Name changed to Carolina Colloquy for University Teaching.  All UNC institutions automaticallymembers of the Carolina Colloquy.

1993
 
March First Round Robin Exchange program. Small groups of faculty from W-SSU and UNCA met for overnight program to exchange ideas on teaching

May  Fifth Carolina Colloquy conference, UNCW
June Third New Faculty Seminar on Exemplary Teaching, WCU
October  Carolina Colloquy for University Teaching became "public university" outreach arm of the Institute for College & University Teaching (ICUT)

May  Third multi-campus retreat, Wildacres Retreat Center.  All post-secondary faculty and administrators in North Carolina invited to participate (UNC universities, community colleges, independent colleges/universities)
