Appeals

From time to time students wish to appeal decisions related to their program. Although the routing of such appeals may vary depending on their specific nature, generally appeals begin at the level of the student's advisor and/or the course instructor (if the issue is related to grading concerns). If the appeal is not resolved at that level, it moves to the level of the department chair. Unresolved appeals then move to the level of the dean and, as necessary, to other administrative offices at the university level. All formal appeals must be presented in writing.

Student Surveys

The Office of Institutional Research administers a variety of student surveys each year, some of which are required by the UNC General Administration, others of which are UNCG based. Outcomes from these surveys provide important information that can help chairs evaluate programs. The data also are used in connection with various accreditation activities. Department chairs play an important role relative to student survey activities; they can help ensure a high response rate by encouraging faculty and students to participate, and they can work with faculty to identify useful ways to apply survey outcomes in program planning.
