The purpose of the John and Mary Hamil Fund is to encourage innovations in undergraduate education. The Innovation in Undergraduate Education Grant will be provided to faculty who teach undergraduate students, with a preference for those teaching freshmen and sophomores. One grant will be given each year to assist faculty in developing new instructional approaches or innovations in one or more classes at the 100-200 level.
The grant may be used to purchase supplies and materials or for any other purpose directly relating to instructional innovation.
The amount of the grant request may be up to $800.00 depending upon fund availability. Funds must be spent or encumbered by the May 15 of the fiscal year. Only full-time tenured or tenure-track faculty teaching 100-200 level course(s) may apply.

C. Proposals will be reviewed by a faculty committee which will ascertain that the proposed innovation is purposeful and intentional, can be sustained, and cannot be support from departmental or other institutional funds. Recommendations will be forwarded to the Director of the University Teaching and Learning Center who will notify the grant recipients.
The recipient of the Hamil Grant will be announced by the Friday of the second full week in November. A final report will be submitted to the Director of the UTLC within six months of the final expenditure of funds. This report will be forwarded to the UNCG Excellence Foundation, Inc.
