May 12, 1998 -Invited Presentation - David G. Brown, Provost, Wake Forest University

Wake Forest's Plan for the Class of 2000 has gained national attention because of its goal of merging technology and Wake Forest's traditions to
maximize the quality of student learning.  As part of its plan, the university concluded it was timely and necessary to make computers uniform and
universal. 

Ubiquitous Computing

Provost Brown will discuss issues related to requiring computer ownership or access for all students, and the advantages of such requirements for
teaching and learning.  The Wake Forest plan will be considered along with models from universities such as Sonoma State, Drew, Wesleyan, Virginia
Tech, UNC Chapel Hill and Western Carolina. 

Using Technology to Enhance UNCG's Vision for Teaching and Learning

Recently, the Vision Working Group of UNCG's Teaching, Learning and Technology Roundtable completed a recommendation for a Vision for
Teaching and Learning at UNCG.  Provost Brown will present examples of how informational and instructional technology can be used to implement
and enhance this vision.
