Fall 2008 Magazine Cover
Look closely at the cover of this magazine. Do you recognize the artist?
Readers who are familiar with UNCG Magazine might remember the illustration work of Kyle T. Webster '99 paired with the winners of our 2006-07 creative writing contest. We love Kyle's style and immediately knew who we wanted to use for our first illustrated cover.
You might like to get to know a little bit about this alumnus whose work has also been published by the likes of The New Yorker, Entertainment Weekly and Paste. Read his story as well as look at more of his stunning work here.
Somehow it seems appropriate that we're featuring his work while we announce our second creative writing contest. That's right the creative writing contest is back. If you read the winners in the last contest and were inspired to send in some of your own work, here's your chance.
We're looking for previously unpublished short stories or creative nonfiction essays, 2,000 words or less, please.

Submissions may also be emailed to beth_english@uncg.edu. Be sure to put Writing Contest in the subject line.
Include your name, class year, address, telephone number and email address (if applicable). Also, be sure to specify which category your writing falls into.
Winners and special merit winners will have their submissions published in an upcoming issue and will receive additional copies of the magazine. The deadline for entries is Dec. 12.
Here's a piece of good news for those of you who remember the winning story in the spring 2007 issue, The Wedding Cake. The author, Steve Cushman '02 MFA, has just this month published a collection of short stories, Fracture City, which includes The Wedding Cake.
Happy writing!
