From Elvis Presley to Salvador Dali. From Woodstock to Beijing. Arnold Doren's camera captured moments, faces, places.
Doren, who died in 2003, was a faculty member in UNCG's art department from 1978-2002. His family recently donated 70-plus boxes of his prints, slides and negatives to the UNCG University Libraries.
Doren traveled the world with his cameras, capturing landscapes, still lifes and candid portraits from China, Italy, Canada and the American Southwest. The Doren collection also includes nudes, celebrity photos and experimental graphically enhanced prints.
He shot 10 rolls of film at Woodstock in 1969. An eye-catching black-and-white portrait of rock guitarist Jimi Hendrix and some revealing shots of the crowd engaging in outdoor community bathing are among the standouts.
The collection will be opened to the public once the team in University Archives catalogues and preserves it.
