UNC President Erskine Bowles gave the Search Committee his criteria for a new chancellor:

  1. A leader who is as driven as Pat Sullivan to take UNCG to the next level
  2. A good administrator and manager
  3. Someone who cares and cares deeply about this university
  4. Enormous people skills
  5. Strong commitment to undergraduate education and research
  6. Someone who would buy into the UNC Tomorrow report
  7. A good partner for Chancellor Stanley Battle at A&T in a cooperative relationship, not just with the Gateway University Research Park, but other academic and research endeavors
  8. Someone who will work with the UNC system and with the other universities
  9. A community activist
  10. A proven fund-raiser

About Chancellor Sullivan

Dr. Patricia A. Sullivan, who became the first female chancellor at The University of North Carolina at Greensboro in 1995, announced she will retire from the position, effective July 31, 2008.

Chancellor Sullivan is UNCG’s ninth chief executive. She took over as chancellor on January 1, 1995, succeeding Dr. William E. Moran. She came to Greensboro from Texas Woman’s University, where she was vice president for academic affairs and had served a year as interim president. Sullivan is currently the senior chancellor in the UNC system.
