The University of North Carolina at Greensboro (UNCG) invites expressions of interest in and nominations for the position of Chancellor.
The University of North Carolina at Greensboro is one of seventeen campuses within the University of North Carolina system, which is governed by the UNC Board of Governors and led by President Erskine Bowles. Classified by Carnegie as a Research University with High Research Activity, UNCG is a diverse, student-centered research university, linking the Piedmont Triad and North Carolina to the world through learning, discovery, and service.
Established in 1891, The University of North Carolina at Greensboro has a student enrollment of approximately 17,000 students taught by approximately 840 faculty members. The University offers undergraduate, master's, and doctoral degrees in the College of Arts and Sciences, Bryan School of Business and Economics, School of Education, School of Health & Human Performance, School of Human Environmental Sciences, School of Music, School of Nursing, and Graduate School. UNCG has raised over $90 million through the Students First Campaign, which will conclude in 2009.
The Chancellor is the administrative and executive head of the University and carries out the policies of the UNCG Board of Trustees and the University of North Carolina's Board of Governors. The Chancellor reports to the UNC President.
The Chancellor Search Committee seeks a distinguished individual with a keen understanding of the conditions shaping higher education and the challenges facing faculty as researchers and teachers, the ability to provide collaborative leadership in a complex environment, a commitment to shared governance, and a demonstrated respect and appreciation for faculty, students, and staff. The Chancellor will be expected to partner with the education, research, and business communities as well as provide leadership in efforts to secure the financial resources required to carry out the University’s strategic plans and priorities. It is desirable, but not required, that the successful candidate will hold an earned doctorate or equivalent terminal degree. The Chancellor must be a proven leader with extraordinary vision, energy, and unwavering integrity.
