If you're a new UNCG student living in Lee County, you're in for a treat. A group of WC/UNCG alumni have gathered together to start a new tradition — an ice cream social for new students.
Peggy Clemmer Golden '48 will host the social at her Sanford home on Aug. 9.
Part of the impetus for the event came from the sheer number of Lee County students who will attend UNCG in the fall. Jenny Lasater Moore '74 estimates at least 30 high school and transfer students will start classes at UNCG this fall.
Alumni who have been involved in planning the event include Moore, Golden, Virginia Edwards Hester '39, Steve Underwood '73, Bonnie Valentino Russell '77, Lynn Waggoner Gotschalk '84 and Dot Bell Hubbard '40.
The theme for the event is "Yum Yum: Spartans Have the Scoop." They plan to give the incoming students an ice cream scoop and a gift certificate to Yum Yum.
"We want everybody to feel good about UNCG," Moore said.
