In this instance, if you schmooze you win.
Alumni Relations and Career Services are partnering together to offer an evening of networking for students called Schmooza Palooza on Monday, Oct. 22.
Alumni from all professional backgrounds are needed to act as mentors for students as they learn how to build rapport and make connections all while balancing plates of appetizers and watching their body language.
Students love it because it's great experience, said Jodee Ruppel, assistant director for alumni relations. Alumni love it because it helps students.
The event kicks off at 5:15 p.m. with heavy appetizers and an opportunity for alumni and friends of the university to mingle with each other before joining student participants in a structured networking activity.
The event also includes two guest speakers Tim Dix, a professional trainer and coach with Global Resources, and Joshua Smith, president and CEO of the Coaching Group and member of the Board of Directors of the FedEx Corp.
To volunteer as a networking mentor, RSVP before Oct. 17.
Also, remember that the following day UNCG will host its second annual Business Summit (formerly called the Corporate Expo). The event will begin with a continental breakfast and networking opportunity, followed by a keynote speech by president and CEO of FedEx Express David J. Bronczek.
