Tee it up

It's time to don your golf shoes for a good cause.

The Spartan Club is hosting the 17th Annual NewBridge Bank Spartan Club Golf Classic Thursday, May 8.

The tournament will be held at the Irving Park course of the Greensboro Country Club, with a four-man captain's choice format.

All proceeds benefit the Spartan Excellence Foundation, which provides scholarships for student-athletes.

The Spartan Club is a non-profit organization whose primary purpose is to secure scholarship support for the more than 225 male and female student-athletes who compete in 16 varsity sports at the NCAA Division I level. This past fall, 54 percent of Spartan student-athletes earned a GPA of 3.0 or higher. Currently, 125 hold a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better (48 percent).
