February 2009

A night to remember

Last Thursday night, the Spartans triumphed. While the basketball game against Davidson was a 75-54 loss, the event was far from disappointing. UNCG filled the Greensboro Coliseum with a crowd of 11,687. When the team ran out onto the court, they were greeted by screaming fans and a sea of navy and gold. Read more about this first step toward building a new tradition.

11,687 fill the Greensboro Coliseum for the Feb. 5 contest between UNCG and Davidson College.

Planning directions

Alumni, let your voices be heard. The university wants your input on the UNCG Plan. Read more about the plan and how you can comment online.

Putting on a ‘Picnic’

Enjoy a spring “Picnic” … without the ants. UNCG Opera Theatre has commissioned well-known composer Libby Larsen to translate William Inge's 1953 Pulitzer Prize-winning play into a modern jazz opera. Take in the world premiere of Libby Larsen's “Picnic” April 2-5 in Aycock Auditorium. Read more about the opera and a special alumni picnic planned for April 5.

Welcome back

Reunion attendees get to go back to school in a whole new way this year. In addition to returning to campus and visiting old haunts, alumni will have a chance to add to their weekend with learning sessions. Read more about what's in store for the April 17-18 Reunion.

Service with a smile

Just call them ambassadors of goodwill. The Student Alumni Ambassadors, in addition to their duties at various alumni events, have taken the university's motto of service to heart with two recent projects. Read more about their trip to Biloxi to help with hurricane relief and the Branches of Love program.
