March 2010
Considering a trip to the Big Apple? If you travel the weekend of May 1-3, you can experience a little taste of UNCG.
Two UNCG alumni Chris Chalk '01 and Beth Leavel '80 MFA are performing on Broadway and allowing alumni an inside look at the actor's life.
Chalk is cast as Cory in the revival of August Wilson's Pulitzer Prize-winning play Fences. He takes the stage alongside such notables as Denzel Washington and Viola Davis.
Leavel, a Tony Award winner for her role in The Drowsy Chaperone, is now playing leading lady Donna Sheridan in Mamma Mia.
On May 2, Leavel will give a backstage tour of Mamma Mia at 5 p.m. and Chalk will meet alumni for dinner at 7 p.m.
Alumni can choose whether to buy tickets to either of the Broadway performances. Visit www.wintergarden-theater.com to purchase tickets for Mamma Mia. Visit www.corttheater.net to purchase tickets for Fences. Both will offer a 2 p.m. matinee and 8 p.m. performance on Saturday, May 1 and afternoon performances on Sunday, May 2.
The three-day weekend will wrap up with UNCG's annual alumni reception and showcase at Kirk Theatre on 42nd Street. During the showcase, our newest theatre alumni will perform short vignettes. Agents are invited to the performance so they can get to know the newest actors destined for New York.
If you're interested in being a part of the alumni festivities, contact the Office of Alumni Relations at (336) 334-5696 or email alumni@uncg.edu.
