March 2011
Greek alumni know they gained a lot from their time in fraternities and sororities life-long friendships, leadership skills, the ability to work well with others, just to name a few. And now those alumni have an opportunity to give back.
The Greek Legacy, which was created in 2007, allows alumni to support the next generation in Greek letter organizations. Whether it's through helping at events, offering expertise in your field or simply giving time for whatever is needed, alumni can provide essential support.
If time is an issue, Greek alumni can help financially, said Donegan Root '87, associate director of development for Alumni Relations. The Greek Legacy is gathering pledges to establish an endowed scholarship for a fraternity and sorority member with the highest GPA. $50,000 is needed to establish the scholarship.
The Immediate Impact Fund currently provides money for leadership development opportunities for a few fraternity and sorority members each year.
The Greek Legacy is also looking for alumni who would be willing to serve on the board of directors.
On April 16, Greek alumni will hold the UNCG Greek Legacy Reception and Awards Dinner in Cone Ballroom of Elliott University Center to celebrate Greek alumni and to present Greek Legacy Leadership Excellence Awards to emerging leaders in the Greek system. Cost is $20 per person. To register, visit uncggreeklegacy.info.
