Catch the spirit of the holiday season with the Alumni Association's annual Branches of Love Dec. 3 in the Virginia Dare Room of the Alumni House.
Part holiday event, part food drive and part competition, Branches of Love is an annual tradition that draws groups from the UNCG community to decorate holiday trees, which are then donated to needy families.
This year, area school children will provide entertainment while groups decorate their trees. The festivities start at 1 p.m.
Trees are judged and awards are given in four categories: Best Spartan Spirit, Best Theme, Best Homemade Decorations and Best Overall Tree.
In addition to providing decorated trees to those in need, Student Alumni Ambassadors are asking participants to bring new or gently-used coats, canned food items and/or toys for children up to age 12. All donations will go to Greensboro Urban Ministries.
If you would like to donate shatter-proof ornaments or any other tree-trimmings, please bring them to the Office of Alumni Relations on the lower level of the Alumni House prior to Dec. 3. The Alumni Relations office will accept food, toys and coats for Greensboro Urban Ministries as well.
If you would like to form a team (two to four people), email the chair of Branches of Love, Ashlyn Helms, at firstname.lastname@example.org. Each team is asked to bring at least 10 canned food items. A special prize will be awarded to the team that brings in the most canned goods.
Even if you don't participate in the tree decorating contest, come on out and bring your family. It's a great way to kick off the season.
