An official welcome

Last week, UNC system president Tom Ross was inaugurated in his native Greensboro at NC A&T. During his speech he reflected on what possessed him to leave a job he loved and take on this position during a time of financial crisis. “During my short nine-month tenure as UNC President, we've already allocated over $400 million in new permanent budget cuts, dealt with the aftermath of a hurricane, experienced an earthquake, for heaven's sake, and faced more than our share of controversial and contentious issues—and we have done so always in the public eye. What was I thinking?” Read his reasons behind why he believes guiding the state university system is of utmost importance.

You probably walked past the Alumni House a million times while you were a student. You may have attended meetings there or even got married in the Virginia Dare Room. Seeking nominations

If you've been thinking about nominating someone for one of UNCG's highest awards, now is the time to do so. The deadline for the Charles Duncan McIver and Weaver/Holderness Awards is Oct. 24.
