Life on the Quad

Step into the Quad these days and you'll be greeted by the sounds of construction — the whine of saws, the clank of metal on metal, the zip of drills. Things are moving along. Read more about the Quad progress, how you can help and when you can take a tour.

A view from the second floor of Shaw Residence Hall shows the Quad construction in progress.

Being neighborly

It's time to get your hands dirty for a good cause. The UNCG Alumni Association has offered to help with landscaping three homes moved to make way for the new Spartan Village on the West Lee Street corridor. Read more about upcoming work days and other ways to make a contribution.

For the love of basketball

It's almost time for March madness. This year, the UNCG men's and women's basketball teams will travel to Asheville for the SoCon Basketball championships March 2-5. Now is the time to make plans to be there to cheer them on. Read more about how to purchase tickets and where to go between the games to hang out with other Spartan fans.

On the road again

You've probably seen them on the road — specialty license plates that come with a school logo. All but three of the UNC system schools have them. Unfortunately, we're one of the three. Read more about how you can help UNCG get its logo on the road.

You love 'em, You hate 'em: Recruiters and your career

One day recruiters are your best friends: “I've got three recruiters hunting jobs for me…” The next day they're on your black list: “I can't believe they didn't have the courtesy to call.” Jump into the recruiter's shoes and you'll get a better idea of what to expect. Read more from Kathleen Martinek, former UNCG alumni career counselor.

Alumni Association Announcements & Upcoming Events

Thanks to all the alumni who voted for our students in the Institute for Emerging Issues Prize for Innovation competition. Their idea received the most votes, and the money from the award will help them launch their long-term mentoring program. In upcoming events, learn about the wine industry from Dr. Joy Bhadury or the future of education from Dean Karen Wixson in the continuing Around the House series Feb. 21 and 28, respectively. And don't forget the Woman's College Reunion April 13-14. Learn about these events and more.
