March 2012

We said yes to Wes

It's official. Wes Miller is no longer UNCG's interim men's basketball head coach. The man who captured the attention of the campus and the media by leading the team to a seven-game winning streak, a SoCon north division title and media SoCon coach of the year honors has signed a five-year contract with UNCG. Read more about this dramatic season and what Miller's looking forward to in the years ahead.

Altogether now

On the Ides of March, something wonderful happened. We started letting people know UNCG prepares students to Do something bigger altogether. Read more about UNCG's strategic marketing and communication initiative and how you can help spread the word.

Inspiring the next good idea

On March 27, entrepreneurs will visit classrooms, talk on panels and share their experiences to inspire the next generation of business owners. Entrepreneurs, many of them UNCG alumni, will talk to students in 48 different classes. Read more about UNCG's first Entrepreneur Day and sessions that you can attend.

On board

In July, the Alumni Association Board of Directors will change over leadership and welcome new members. Check out who will represent you in the coming year.

Make your emails work for you

My email account was hijacked. All 125 contacts were sent a bogus email about my being stranded in Spain. My credit cards were stolen, the embassy was no help, phones disconnected… Many recipients had never received such an email and were actually going to send money — except the tip-off was the careless use of grammar, especially the last line: “Thanks and hoping to read from you soon.” Neglecting to proofread spoiled their plan! Read more from Kathleen Martinek, former UNCG alumni career counselor.

Alumni Association Announcements & Upcoming Events

Come “Around the House” to hear from Dr. Rick Bunch on March 20. Or if you're in the Myrtle Beach area on that day, plan to attend an alumni and friends gathering with Chancellor Linda P. Brady. If catching a baseball game is a little more your speed, mark your calendar for UNCG night at the Greensboro Grasshoppers game April 19. And don't forget the Woman's College Reunion April 13-14. Learn about these events and more.
