Working knowledge

If you have a career, calling or vocation, you have something to share.

Career Services on campus is looking for alumni to work with students as they start thinking about next steps.

“Students want to hear back from those who have ‘been there, done that’ and to understand what the real career situation is like in industry and career functions,” says Dr. Patrick Madsen in Career Services.

Some ways you can help:

Present on Campus: Alumni are the best resource when it comes to the real information about careers, industries and how to succeed. Alumni can share their experiences either through a web interview or on campus. Contact Dr. Patrick Madsen at pomadsen@uncg.edu for more information or to join the presenters list as a potential resource for students.

Professional Coaching Program: Share your time during the year to conduct resume reviews and mock interviews or give advice to students. Contact Dr. Patrick Madsen at pomadsen@uncg.edu for more information or to schedule a time to coach students.

Hire a Spartan: Working at a company that is looking for part time help, interns, or full time employees? Think about UNCG. Register your company with SpartanCareers to start posting your positions. Contact Tami Rich, Recruitment Coordinator, at recruit@uncg.edu.

Host a Student Group: Students are always interested in visiting a company's site for possible tours, meetings with key professionals and opportunities to learn more about job functions and careers. Contact the Employer Relations Team at recruit@uncg.edu.

Job Shadowing Program: This program, scheduled once a year, lasts up to one week. Students will be partnered with program employers who will design a shadowing experience that will both promote their industry as well as provide real life information to students about potential careers.

Connect Career Services with your HR Team: Help build the UNCG brand and promote your fellow UNCG candidates to your organization. Contact the Employer Relations Team at recruit@uncg.edu and a team member will reach out to your HR department.
