January 2013
In the current political climate, it can be easy to become disaffected, convinced that your concerns will not be able to find a voice above the shouting.
However, as UNCG alumni and friends, we have a number of things in common, and several priorities that we want to make sure that leaders at the state and national level are aware of when making decisions that affect the present and future of this institution.
It was with this in mind that the Spartan Legislative Network was formed last spring, and it has grown rapidly as it carries out its mission of informing elected officials and the wider community about UNCG's contributions to economic development, breakthroughs in scientific research, the development of future leaders and service to the people of our state, nation and world.
This year, the Spartan Legislative Network is beginning what promises to be a meaningful tradition with its inaugural North Carolina General Assembly Reception. This event is your opportunity to meet with dozens of members of the NC House and Senate to make your concerns known, a critical component of the democratic process.
The event will take place Jan. 30, 2013, 6-8 p.m., at the Cardinal Club in Raleigh. The fee to attend is only $10, which includes heavy appetizers, beer, wine and soft drinks. That fee is waived for UNCG students, so if you know any current Spartans, please bring them along so they can get a first-hand look at the SLN in action.
You can register and pay for the event at the Alumni Association web site, where you can also read more about the Spartan Legislative Network
