As part of a study investigating noise-induced hearing loss, researchers tested the effect of intense noise levels on the hearing of local high school marching band members. Researchers plan to broaden the hearing damage studies to include the threat of tinnitus (also known as ringing in the ears) in musicians and to examine a possible genetic basis to hearing loss that could help predict risk factors.
